You have two options: either (1) to give a seminar on (a) Newell and Simon's
ACM Turing award lecture or (b) the works one of the following
Famous Figures in AI or (2) to write an essay on (a) some industrial
application of AI or (b) the works one of the following
Famous Figures in AI. If you choose to give a seminar, contact me
by 15/3/99.
Famous Figures in AI
Below is a list of people who have made significant contributions
to Aritificial Intelligence.
Choose one of these and write an essay describing that person's contributions.
In the essay you must:
- Give a brief personal background for the person.
- Identify the fields of AI the person has contributed to.
- Describe (illustrating some understanding) at least five
particularly important contributions made by the person.
- Give appropriate relevant citations to material (papers, books, etc)
written by the person, that describe the "particularly important
contributions".
- Identify and discuss other people's work that stimulated and was
stimulated by the chosen person's work.
There is a wealth of material in the library and on the WWW.
References to appropriate literature and WWW pages must be supplied, but
do not copy out passages from the literature - your survey must demonstrate
understanding.
The survey must be 2000 to 2500 words, excluding references.
It must be word processed (hand written assignments will be ignored).
If you are unfamiliar with technical and scientific writing style, there
are several books in the library that will guide you.
Remember ... late and plagiarised assignments receive 0%.
